Beer selection... what? where? how?
From the day the concept was hatched to today, I have had one single aim; to provide a useful industry snapshot of the ‘best' beers in Australia, year to year. ‘Best’? Not really. Who’s to say that a beer I am loving at this moment is any better than the one you had yesterday? Or the one your mate has tomorrow? Beer is such a personal and subjective beast and one which cannot be ranked in any true sense of the word. So why do it?
The reaction to the book has been so positive over the years that it seems a worthwhile endeavour, if only for a bit of fun and to generate some bar room conversation. So here some of the key premises of the book
The Voting Panel
The panel has always been divided into 4 groups, to ensure we get a broader and more accurate picture of the beer scene.
1) Brewers, 2) Beer Writers/Journos/Bloggers, 3) Retailers and
4) Venue Operators.
How are the beers selected?
The criteria is simple. Any beer that was brewed, in Australia, in 2015 is eligible. It can be draught, bottled, canned or sampled at a festival from a plastic cup. It can be part of a core range or a limited release. Beers are selected based on the personal experience of each Voting Panel member allowing for a range of beers to be selected.
